気になっていた言葉が２つあります　

Think outside the box​ （既成概念にとらわれない）

　　　: to think imaginatively using new ideas instead of traditional or expected ideas.（伝統や既成概念でなく新しいアイデアを使って想像的に考える）

– To solve this puzzle, you’ll have to think outside the box.

似たような表現にOut of the boxがありますが、こちらは主として「箱から出して（そのまま）」という意味。

– In most cases panels can be used right out of the box.（ほとんどの場合、これらのパネルは 箱から取出して即使用可能です。）

「型にはまらない」の意味もあります。「逆に型にはまった」はどういうかというと

Conventional, stereotyped, inside the box, button-down, formulary, cookie-cutterといった表現があります。  

　 　- I want a unique house, not one of those cookie-cutter boxes that looks like every other one on the block.

Bolt from the blue  （晴天の霹靂）

: a complete surprise, something totally unexpected, usually describes unpleasant events or pieces of news.

– A foreign office spokesman had described the coup as a bolt from the blue.

– Mrs. Thomas says the arrest had come like a bolt out of the blue.

Note: This expression compares an unexpected event to a bolt of lightning from a blue sky.　(この句は「青空に突然現れる稲妻」のように予想外の出来事を例えたもの）

Boltには「ものを固定するボルト、金属片」以外に「かみなり。いかずち。雷鳴」の意味があります。晴れた空からいきなり金属片が降ってくるのも驚きですが、青空に突然稲妻（霹靂）が光ったらびっくりします。a bolt from the blueは、日本語の「晴天の霹靂」とまったく同じ発想ですね。
